New Arrivals at The Standard Wine Co.

This month at The Standard Wine Co., we’re celebrating the arrival of some of our favourite Italian wines. These are not just any wines, they’re produced by some of the most passionate wine makers around.

Le Betulle

To start things off, we’re introducing Le Betulle, a Pinot Grigio collaboration by founder, Piero and a leading producer from this unique region of Friuli. It’s a light, refreshing and fruity wine that pays homage to an old world wine varietal whilst providing an Italian, local twist.

Bucci

We also welcome Bucci to the collection. Bucci is a true pioneer of some of the most elegant and complex white wines in Italy, and is one of the most highly awarded producers in the country. One to watch out for is definitely Villa Bucci Rosso DOC Rosso Piceno (Montepulciano - Sangiovese).

Ampelio Bucci

Oasi degli Angeli

On 17 hectares of land in the heart of Piceno, sitting very far south along the coast of Marche, is Oasi degli Angeli. Marco Casolanetti tends to his vineyards, the fifth generation of his family to do so. He is the first generation to focus the property on their old Montepulciano and Bordo (the local Grenache) grape vines, and began to plant more vineyards, replacing old fields of grain that the family always madeorzo pasta from, a local favorite. Marco is a visionary; a man with an engineer’s brain and a winemaker’s passion. These are not to be missed.

Gianfranco Fino

Gianfranco Fino is part of the group of winegrowers faithful to tradition, keen to save old vineyards and keep their specific characteristics alive.

His painstaking work and his great wines speak for themselves: his Primitivo di Manduria follows an innovative approach. Despite maintaining the traditional approach of blending grapes from different vineyards, which is a well-established custom in these areas, it reveals a truly surprising power and structure.

Azienda Agricola La Magia

Established in 1979, this certified organic vineyard on 52 hectares sits at 400-450 meters above sea level. Facing southeast, the sandy soil contains a good quantity of lime and clay which aids water retention, while the volcanic influence contributes to a wonderful minerality. Power and structure with superb elegance are the result in La Magia’s Brunellos, aged for three years in 500 litre French oak tonneaux.

Winemaker Fabian Schwartz and his family have decided to produce their precious Brunello only in the best vintages, listening to nature and helping it to speak freely in their wines, protecting the grape and soil identity. Some of the finest wines around and available now.
