Producer Profile: Borgo Molino
Borgo Molino was founded in 1922 by the Nardin family who remain the sole owners. The estate is located in the historic village of Roncadelle amidst the picturesque hills of the Marca Trevigiana. Whilst they have produced a range of table wines for many years it is the production of Prosecco wine from the noble Glera grape that is their main focus.
The commune of Treviso in Veneto is the heart of the Prosecco DOC, even though the name Prosecco comes from a town to the east in Friuli. Until the 1960s the majority of sparkling wine from this region was sweeter and resembled Asti Spumante. Now the dry styles of Prosecco have swept the world and there is more prosecco sold globally than champagne.
Sergio Nardin has long promoted a strong relationship with the land, respecting the bounties that it provides. The clay-rich soils in the heart of the DOC wine zone Lison Pramaggiore - which lies across the boundary between Friuli and Veneto - provide healthy growing conditions and opportunities for blending.
With Sergio’s two sons Paolo and Pietro representing the next generation, the Nardin family are taking the enterprise into a new era. Paolo as oenologist is responsible for the wine production, and is supported by Andrea Artico, one of the most sought-after oenologists of the Veneto. Pietro spearheads a sophisticated marketing strategy for clarity of communication and brand recognition.
