Movia ‘Veliko’ Belo, Brda Suho Belo ZGP 2019
Grape: 60% Ribolla, 30% Sauvignon, 10% Pinot Gris
Vinification: 1-day-long maceration for Pinot Grigio and Sauvignon, 5-day-long maceration Ribolla. After fermentation, the wines are put separately in barriques. Ages 18 months in 225 l barrique barrels
Tasting: Intense aromas gradually reveal their rich palette. Ripe yellow apple, persimmon, yellow plum, and pineapple. Perceptions of candied lemon, honey and dry yellow flowers follow. Slight hints of fine lees play with almonds, butter, vanilla, and a gentle touch of caramel. The finish is herbal, of rosemary and marjoram. Its youthful freshness indicates that the wine will continue to develop, with a mineral and slightly astringent finish.

Located in the village of Ceglo in the heart of the Brda appellation, literally a stone’s throw from the Italian border, Movia is widely put the Slovenia on the map of the world’s great wine regions in the late 1990s when the interest in wines grown in former Eastern Bloc states began to flourish. The current generation of Movia is led by winemaker Aleš Kristančič who is as renowned for his passionate embrace of organic and biodynamic farming practices as he is for his larger-than-life personality and ingenious approach to winemaking. Today, Aleš primarily grows Rebula, Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Merlot, and Pinot Noir — all without the use of herbicides, pesticides, or fungicides. The Rebula and Pinot Grigio are generally bottled separately while the Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay are used in blended wines.
