Movia 'Puro' Sparkling, Brda ZGP 2018
A beautiful organic & biodynamic sparkling wine from Slovenia.
**Note that this wine is bottled without disgorgement, only to be opened extremely cold, upside down, upon serving. The yeasts provide natural protection against oxidation in a no-sulfite-added wine, and most of all, the tableside disgorgement experience is incredibly entertaining!

(You can also enjoy Puro without disgorging; the sediment/lees will be cloudy but does not affect the taste.)
Grape: 100% Chardonnay
Vinification:Natural fermentation; Ages 12 months in 225 l French oak barrels; the wine is then bottled with 7 % of must from the current year’s harvest (it contains fructose and indigenous yeasts
Tasting:Expressive and fine aromas evoke perceptions of bergamot, ripe apple, pineapple, hints of papaya, lemon and tea tree, followed by the perception of Mediterranean herbs, and a slight note of nuts from the background. The taste is intense, full, and emphatically elegant, and concludes with citrus perceptions and a long mineral aftertaste.

Located in the village of Ceglo in the heart of the Brda appellation, literally a stone’s throw from the Italian border, Movia is widely put the Slovenia on the map of the world’s great wine regions in the late 1990s when the interest in wines grown in former Eastern Bloc states began to flourish. The current generation of Movia is led by winemaker Aleš Kristančič who is as renowned for his passionate embrace of organic and biodynamic farming practices as he is for his larger-than-life personality and ingenious approach to winemaking. Today, Aleš primarily grows Rebula, Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Merlot, and Pinot Noir — all without the use of herbicides, pesticides, or fungicides. The Rebula and Pinot Grigio are generally bottled separately while the Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay are used in blended wines.
